I remember when my first child was born – the first time I felt that tiny, newborn set of digits reaching out to clutch my own finger like a diver grasping for a rope in the inky depths of the ocean. I felt alive, electric in that moment. I couldn’t help but marvel at the delicate little creature I held in my arms. I thought about all the possibilities the world held for this rosebud of a person who, at the time, couldn’t even lift her own head.
I think about moments like this whenever I do a newborn photography shoot. I remember that sense of awe and wonder I felt in the core of my chest. I hope that, through the lens of my camera, I might be able to recapture and preserve that feeling for the parents of other little bundles of joy.
In a recent shoot, I had the pleasure of meeting newborn Mila. I was immediately taken with her peaceful demeanor and, of course, her itty bitty baby bits.
Just look at those gorgeous eyelashes, perfect pink lips and chubby baby cheeks. The unblemished softness of a newborn baby’s skin is truly a sight to behold. Is it any wonder Mila’s parents would want to capture these special, fleeting moments and save them for posterity?
I like to think that one day, Mila might see these photos and understand just how much happiness she brought her parents at the time of her birth.
To have the opportunity to be a part of a newborn child’s introduction to life on earth is a thrilling, humbling experience. Here’s to Mila, and the many years of growth, adventure, and personal fulfillment she has ahead of her.
